• Reiki is a beneficial healing modality that is very popular and utilized for health and wellness. It is based on energetic principles and is practiced in many hospitals, medical settings, and in private practice all around the world.

Reiki is a form of energy bodywork that originated in Japan. It is based on the concept that a “life force”, or energy, flows through us and causes us to be alive. This concept is held in many traditional healing systems. The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words – rei, which means “universal,” and ki, which means “life force energy" and is similar to the concept of prana in Ayurveda, and qi or chi in Traditional Chinese Medicine. According to the Reiki tradition, we experience vitality when there is a harmonious exchange of energy and information between our individual body and our environment. On the other hand, when the energy is disrupted, weakened or blocked, we may experience symptoms such as fatigue, unhappiness, and illness. Reiki helps activate the body’s natural healing abilities by channeling energy into the receipent by means of subtle touch. Peace and relaxation are some of the reported effects of receiving a Reiki session. The more we can experience a relaxed, stress-free state, the more we invite increased vitality into all aspects of our being.

A person in good health can still receive the benefits of Reiki, such as gaining a more positive outlook on life, experiencing an increase in energy, or receiving clarity about a specific situation. Reiki also serves as a wonderful complementary modality to any type of medical or alternative treatment.

Each Reiki session begins with the practitioner getting a thorough understanding of the client’s goals and concerns, including any mobility issues. Reiki sessions may be enhanced by the use of aromatherapy and crystals when deemed appropriate by the Practitioner and client.

Reiki can help with a variety of conditions, including:

    • Pain Management

    • Anxiety and depression

    • Fatigue

    • Insomnia

    • Infertility

    • Stress

    • Anger

    • Detox

In addition, Reiki can be used for the following purposes:

    • Reduce symptoms of stress

    • Improved sense of well-being

    • Remove energy blockages

    • Enhance spiritual growth

    • Balance of mind, body and spirit

  • An average session is generally 60 minutes. 30 minute sessions are also available.

  • Unlike traditional therapy, you do not attend NLP sessions regularly. With this style of work, there is no need to have a weekly session.

In a session, we will apply change-work to one specific outcome, not just checking in generally. Because of this fine-tuned application of re-wiring what’s in the way of what you want in one specific area, there’s no need to approach change in the general and more gradual way that traditional “talk” therapy offers.

Because of this, we do not schedule another session at the close of a current session. We do not meet weekly or regularly.

Instead, you book sessions when you need them. You can book a session when there is something new you want to work on.

This work is so specific and effective that typically something we worked on will shift (that’s the whole point, right?), so you don’t know you need to keep working on it until you’ve had time to integrate and notice what has already adjusted in working toward what you want.

  • There are many approaches we may be able to use to help you work toward having what you want. Generally, a session will feel like a conversation where you can just be yourself, relax and find a comfortable seat. We will be working via computer (Zoom), and it is very important that you have uninterrupted time for the entirety of the session.

At some point, we will likely discover some surprising aspect that you learned early on, likely something you didn’t consciously remember or attribute to this goal, and we will be able to revise it to be a more updated reference point from which to more usefully create future experience.

  • One session is a great start! You will see for yourself how Reiki makes you feel, if it is relaxing, if you feel more clarity after the session. Many people, after trying one session, go on to purchase a series of sessions to progressively work on their current wellness goals.

  • Many of my clients ask how they can best prepare for and receive the most benefits from their Reiki session. Below is a list of ideas to take into consideration both before and after your next session. Remember, your Reiki session is always catered toward your deepest healing, so finding what works best for you is key.

    Before your session:

    1. Relax + reflect

Give yourself at least 30 minutes prior to the session to sit and reflect, particularly checking in with how your body is feeling and anything you are noticing with regards to emotions, thoughts or physical sensations.

Take some time to breathe and also tend to whatever your body's needs might be on that given day. You may also want to reflect on any intentions you want to set for your session, and anything you want to share with your practitioner before you begin.

    2. Eat + hydrate

You’ll want to be sure you've eaten and hydrated a few hours before the session, mostly so you will be as comfortable as possible and not distracted by hunger or thirst.

Avoid eating a heavy meal beforehand, however, as you don’t want all of your body’s energy to be directed toward digesting while you’re receiving your treatment.

    3. Get comfy

Most Practitioners will have you laying down for the majority of your session, so comfort is key for being open to taking on and integrating the Reiki energy.

Be sure you are wearing comfortable clothes.

You’ll also want to use the restroom before the session, and if the position you are in for your session is uncomfortable in any way, communicate this to your Practitioner, as they will also want to be sure you are as comfortable as possible.

    After your session:

    1. Integrate

Many of the treatment benefits can occur as soon as after the session is over and as such, it’s important to find somewhere quiet and relaxing to integrate what may arise.

We recommend that our clients take at least 15-20 minutes after the session to meditate, lie down, go for a walk in nature or even take a nap. Try not to book or schedule anything immediately after your session.

    2. Hydrate

After doing any type of energy work it’s important to hydrate, so be sure to drink 1-2 glasses of water after your session and plenty of water for the next 48-72 hours as your will be detoxing. We find adding electrolytes to your water can also be helpful, as it helps to replenish the body.

    3. Eat

Energy work is often hungry work, and you may find yourself hungry immediately after your session. Be sure you listen to your body and choose a healthy snack or meal afterward if needed. Eating can also help ground the body and as a bonus, you may find that a piece of dark chocolate be quite restorative.

    4. Reflect

It’s often helpful to spend some time after the session reflecting, so we often recommend that clients journal, draw or somehow capture any insights they had during and immediately after the session.

You may also decide to meditate afterward or listen to calming and/or inspirational music. Whatever you choose to do, find an activity that helps you connect to what you've experienced so you can draw on it in future.

    5. Contact your practitioner

Please get in touch with your Practitioner immediately if you experience any overly challenging emotions, physical sensations or issues after your treatment.

Reiki is extremely gentle and yet, because energy blockages are being cleared in the body, issues may come up as a result. Find out what the best way is to contact your Practitioner, and get in touch if anything feels overly uncomfortable after your session.

  • If you have an acute condition you should seek out a licensed medical professional immediately. If you have a chronic or current issue, Reiki can be an excellent complement in your health or wellness plan.

  •  You may feel a very slight tingling, heat, or energy, or nothing at all. The sensations or lack of are not a barometer of the Reiki, they are just how your particular body senses energy. You may feel a peace and calm in your mind or physically in general. It is different for all clients but deep relaxation is almost always felt. Reiki is so relaxing that sometimes clients may fall asleep during the session. Don’t worry though, you will still receive all of the benefits of the session, sleeping or awake.

  • Usually a session is done without talking and the Practitioner may have soft ambient music playing in the background to aid in your relaxation. If you want to communicate something to your Practitioner during the session, such as if you are cold or too warm, if you would like them to adjust the music, if you are feeling a sensation you would like to discuss, if something feels uncomfortable for you, if you have a question or issue, then do speak up at any time during the session. Your Practitioner wants the best for you and wants to make your session the best experience possible. Also, your Practitioner may ask you after the session if there is anything you would like to share and you may do so at your option. This is good feedback for your Practitioner’s notes for planning your next session.

  • Please drink plenty of water to hydrate your body as your body’s energy system may be moving at a more optimum rate, so please care for yourself with water and healthy food for the next 48-72 hours. It is beneficial to spend some quiet time that day or evening after your session to journal or to contemplate as you may have some insights and further mental clarity as your body continues to process the Reiki session.

  • Reiki is a wonderful complement in a health or wellness plan. It supports your work with your primary care providers. Please see the IARP web site at https://iarp.org for articles on Reiki and how it may be of benefit with medical issues, pregnancy, life stages, and more.

  • This is at client’s discretion. If you felt you had a beneficial and caring session, then you may wish to show your gratitude.

  • No. Reiki is beneficial and works with your body’s energy. In fact, your own energetic body is in control of how much Reiki it wants and needs during the session and utilizes it accordingly. Like breathing, you will comfortably take in as much as you need to support you.

  • Second degree Reiki practitioners learn and receive three symbols, one of which is the "distance symbol." When invoked and used by a Reiki Practitioner, this symbol allows the Practitioner to send healing Reiki energy across time and space.

This symbol can also be used in-person to help clear blockages from the past, or across large parts of the body. Similarly, it can be used to cleanse neighborhoods or geographic places. When practicing Reiki on someone who is not physically present, this symbol is used to connect to his or her energy.

Distance Reiki works according to the Hermetic Law of Similarity, which holds that we are all connected, as we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole. As such, invoking this law during a distance Reiki session allows the practitioner to link an object to the energy field of the recipient. We typically use either the clients name written on a piece of paper or a stuffed animal as the conduit.

Some Practitioners would even say that mapping an object is unnecessary, as we can send Reiki energy to anyone simply by directing our thoughts and energy. Setting up a mutual time is also helpful, so the recipient is open to receiving the energy. However, distance Reiki can be sent to anyone, anywhere and at any time, though permission should, in some way, be invoked or received.

We'll admit we were a bit skeptical when we first performed distance Reiki healing. Yet as we practiced throughout our training, it started to become easier each time we set up the energetic link to the person we were healing. During sessions, which we often do via phone, We've even had people say things to us like, "Were you just working on my shoulder?" Or, "I felt my toes tingling just now." And indeed, it would be the place where our "psychic hands" were working.

Moreover, the clients we work with will relay the very same Reiki benefits back to us after a session. They report feelings of relaxation, happiness, empowerment, ease and relief from pain. Our distance Reiki clients will also have the same amount of breakthroughs as those whom we work with in person. And sometimes, their energetic experiences feel even more powerful to them, because they were not physically present with us.

We've also had conversations with other skeptics of energy healing about the power of prayer. Prayer works in large part because we believe we can send others our love, blessings and intentions, connecting through the power of whomever our God happens to be. We believe that Reiki works on similar principles, and that using that universal life force energy (the source of Reiki energy) is also the same as "God energy."

We all have access to this life force energy, otherwise known as our Chi, Qi or prana, as it flows through each and every living being. Distance Reiki provides just one of many ways to link to and channel this energy for the healing benefit of others.

  • Even though the body appears to be a material object, in reality it’s a field of energy, transformation, and intelligence. When we look beyond the molecules that make up the matter of the body, we see fields of energy. New and novel technology is being developed that can detect these subtle energy vibrations and give us insight into the health of the energetic body.

Ancient Vedic knowledge tells us that this vital energy moves in discretely defined channels, and there exist concentrations of energy in the midline of the body. These centers or wheels of energy are called chakras, and each of these centers identifies a core human need. When a center is open, the energy that flows through that chakra allows needs to be met more effortlessly. If there is a blockage in one area, energy becomes stagnant and intentions are more difficult to actualize.

We offer a unique chakra-balancing treatment. During a session, your Practitioner will work with you to activate your energy centers by placing attention and intention on the location of each chakra, and by using Reiki to increase the flow of energy. Put simply, this ancient practice leads to deep purification, transformation, and rejuvenation.

You can benefit from Chakra Balancing if you wish to:

    • Release emotional pain from past experiences that gets stored at a subtle levels of the body

    • Experience more vitality

    • Shift the energy around deeply rooted behaviors, helping you break free of old conditioned patterns

    • Nourish and develop specific positive traits

    • Experience greater ease and clarity during a transition of any sort

    • Deeply cleanse and nourish your energetic channels

    • Supplement and support your spiritual, meditation, and yoga practice

    • Enliven your inner intelligence, allowing you to bloom into your full potential
